That Time of Year

It's getting close to that time of year again. Christmas. I'm not sure what it is about me, but over the past 10 or so years, Christmas hasn't felt all that special. Maybe I'm becoming jaded.

I can remember when I loved this time of year. Holidays were coming up, Christmas was just around the corner, and then New Years! I enjoyed the coming of a new year. Now... there's no magic. It feels so commercialized. I didn't even put up the tree last year. Of course, there wasn't really any room either, with the house totally ripped apart. I don't know. Maybe I'm getting old and Scroogish. New years isn't anything special anymore, I'm usually working.

Perhaps as we start to get closer I will begin to feel some excitement. Perhaps all I need is someone special to spend it with.

And then there was HEAT!

Just as some snow was starting to come down, my new furnace was installed. Last night, Rob and one of his co-workers came home from work and installed my new furnace that has been sitting in the basement for about 6 months.

It took them about 6 hours, as they had to put in a new duct manifold, chimney, and remove the old warhorse of a furnace. It's been running all night, and WOW! Curtains go flying around when it comes on, and the house warms up quickly.

They were missing a part for the cold air return, so right now it's not hooked up to the return system, but we have some amazing heat. The part we need will be ready on Monday.

This should save me a bunch of money in both gas and electricity. The new furnace is a multi-stage system, and has different fan speeds for heat or cool. Once they get that return completed, I will need to put some doors on the front of the furnace nook. It's a bit louder than the old one, and now I can finish that portion of the renos!

Network Maintenance

My shiny Network Attached Storage is giving me problems. While it seems to be working fine, Vista does not like it.... not in the least! I upgraded to Vista a couple weeks ago, and the system seems to be crawling along at a snail's pace. A couple days ago, the NAS lost it's connection to the network, and BAM! My system started to work much better.

So, I began the long task of removing the files from it and in a few minutes I will be finally disconnecting it for good. It was nice to have, but in the end, I think I'd rather have the drive inside my computer. It's faster, and really... What's the difference?

Wish me luck... and If I happen to fall of the face of the Earth for a while, you'll know it was the evil computer gremlins!
